Blocking and Drill Errors

 - and Video #8

26.     The blocker doesn’t start within 3 feet if they are not serving OR if they are serving and running up to the net to block, they don’t get to the net before the setter sets the ball – Stop it and do it Right! –

Start at the net, or get to the net before the setter touches the ball – (if you don’t start at the net you screw up your partners defensive read and your block will usually be late.)

27.     The blocker pulls off the net before the set – Stop it and do it Right! –

It doesn’t matter where the pass goes!WAIT!!!

Decide to stay and block or pull off the net and dig AFTER you see where the set is going.

28.     The blocker not getting both hands across the net – Stop it and do it Right!

Push both hands across the net (onto the hitters side) with your thumbs up and your fingers to the sides.

Drill Errors

29.     Continuous drills without breaking down the individual movements that go into the skill / trying to learn too much all at once – Stop it and do it Right! –

Coaches: PLEASE teach, don’t give orders.

Players: Take time in between reps to REALLY think about what you are doing.

Repeating the same errors doesn’t help you become your very best; it just makes a really bad habit!
