The Common Errors that Coaches Coach

and

Players Practice

Intro and Arm Swing Errors - Part 1

- and Video #1

Stop it and DO IT RIGHT!

Would it help if I said “Please”?

As beach volleyball gets more and more popular, more and more “coaches” are showing up on the beach and on the internet.

Some are very good and some, although well meaning, are very misinformed – (some of the stuff I see and hear coaches doing and saying is beyond head scratching…)

So we decided to take the some of the mystery out of the game and show you what not to do and how to do it correctly.

We came up with over 30 errors that are demonstrated in 10 videos - you can see Video #1 and the written description at the bottom of this page.

My apologies if we offend any coaches or players out there. And sometimes being offended helps one WAKE UP and change – our goal is for you to be the very best you can be – if you are not already a great coach or player, you can learn to be one.

Like a great player who is committed to learning and perfecting their game, a great coach is one who is continually learning what to teach and how to more effectively communicate in a way that each of their students can more clearly understand. - if you’re going to teach it – do it well! (your students learn just as much or more from watching you than they do from listening to you)

Please note: If you are a player looking for a coach, just because someone is better than you or has a AAA rating or has played professionally, etc, etc DOESN’T mean they are a good coach or have a clue as how to teach YOU to be YOUR very best – choose who you learn from carefully – bad habits are extremely difficult to break!

Here Goes:

Arm Swing Errors

1.   During the hitting motion, the elbow of the hitting arm drops to or below the shoulder – this includes when standing and hitting, playing pepper, doing drills, etc. – (most coaches and players do this ALL the time) – Stop it and do it Right!

Keep the elbow of your hitting arm above your shoulder as you are swinging at the ball

2.   Shots are “pushed at” / NOT hit at the highest point one can reach the ball – Stop it and do it Right!

When making a shot or an ‘off speed’ hit, make contact with the ball at the very highest point you can above your head - as you should do when spiking.
